Our trip to Hurley Park on October, 6th, 2019 By Cory Dupree

Our trip to  Hurley Park on October, 6th, 2019

At our trip to Hurley Park we went kayaking, swimming, rock finding and beach clean- up.

My favorite thing to do there was to kayak with all of my friends. This was my favorite thing to do because I went out very far and saw plenty of fish.

Before we went to do any of the activities we split up into groups. My group was group 1, we had kayaking first and that is where i found my passion for the water. As my group leader I had the wonderful volunteer from i.c.o to lead my amazing day.

At the end of our trip we had a little snack of homemade brownies, apples or oranges and cold fresh water.

SHOULD HIGH SCHOOLS DROP FOOTBALL BECAUSE TOO MANY PLAYERS ARE GETTING INJURED? By Nyla Veal

SHOULD HIGH SCHOOLS DROP FOOTBALL BECAUSE TOO MANY PLAYERS ARE GETTING INJURED?

High schools should not drop football because it would affect a lot of boys especially black boys who play football for a scholarship. If football is dropped, boys who are not academically smart and not financially stable, there will be a lower rate on students going to college. Not only will it affect the college rate, but there will also be less educated men and women (who play football). Football also help keep boys out of trouble because it keeps them busy after school. Allowing teens to be able to stay active, fit, and busy, is a good thing and it’s a great thing that should not be taken away. Another reason why football shouldn’t be dropped in high school is because when the boys get to college, they won’t be as prepared.

The Celebration of Christmas in many ways

What’s Christmas?

It’s a wonderful season. The time of being thankful, for many it’s a time for getting presents, but for very, very, very little people of the world celebrate Christmas as a religion of Jesus’s birthday. Today I’m here to tell you the origin of Christmas in different ways, and in ways connecting to the way you celebrate it today.

Santa – Man of Presents

Many people including me celebrates Christmas this way. I celebrate this way and another way. Anyway, this version of Christmas is about Santa. When I was about 5, my mom told me about Santa. He’s the man that comes on Christmas, to deliver gifts and joy to children around the world. But, has anyone told you the orin story of Santa Clause? So (found on the internet) Santa Clause was first known as St. Nicholas or St.Nick. St.Nick was a generous person in the 3 century. Then, around Christmas time, ‘Nick traveled the world, giving families riches and food. Eventually, it involved to toys for kids as if now. Nick was a generous person and he is the reason there is a Santa Clause today! I’m pretty sure you all celebrate Christmas because of that, but there’s more.

(A Short Paragraph) X – Mas

Well, X – Mas is just Christmas for people who don’t believe in religions or God. Usually they just celebrate the Santa version. Not everyone believes in Christ!

REAL CHRIST – MAS!

This is the Christmas I know! It’s Christmas, and real Christmas! This version is for people who believe in Christ and believe that Christmas is (actually) Jesus’s birthday. Just like how we celebrate birthdays, so does Jesus. His birthday is December 25. After his sacrifice to us, it was later called Christmas. Just like me I celebrate Christmas and Santa version. I just really enjoy this way because it’s like celebrating a birthday for someone who sacrificed themselves for us. I hope you learn something about Christmas and that there are more things than just Santa and presents. It’s about thankfulness and Jesus’s birthday.

Donald Trump – Our “Good Representative”

Today I’m writing about the situation about our president; Donald Trump. At first we thought it was bad with Donald, in fact we wanted (our first woman president of America) Mrs. Clinton, but because of the electoral college, our some other reason, Trump won. It wasn’t a big deal until Trump realized that he had ALL the power of America. That’s a lot of power in the wrong hands. It’s like the president was a child.

Our Problem and (our nearly impossible) Solution

So, I’m pretty sure we know the problem of this synario; the wrong person won the election. Usually this stuff only happens in movies and stuff, but now that it’s real, the question is what do we do? According to all the other articles (including mine) Trump must be very headstrong. We could do one of the following:

  1.  Try and fix Donald Trump’s problems
  2.  Give away America (the country’s already destroyed)
  3.  Fire the president

Since B doesn’t make sense, and we can’t do C without a valuable reason (besides that he’s a “bad president”), then we need to try and help Trump. Right now he may be thinking “why am I so hated and disrespected by my fellow citizens”, well, these are the things America KNOWS you’re doing:

  1. You’re abusing your power
  2. You don’t care about America, like an actual president
  3. You’re aggressive (war – like)

Donald I told you your problems, now it’s your decision to be better and become an actual president or to be the bad person you are now to America. It’s your choice, what are you going to decide?

Hate is Not Taught, It is Learned By Neveah Hargrove

When people talk about the subject of hate, the actual definition of the word “hate” never pops up. The definition of learned is very simple. It is acquiring knowledge through the act of study. The definition of taught is also very simple, it is to show or explain how to do something. The words “taught” and “learned” are very different and have great contrast.

The word “learned: is used in the past tense so that means it has already been taught. Hate cannot be learned because when you are born you do not know what hate is or how it happens. You do not know what hate can become. When you are born you are taught to hate others, how they look walk and talk. When you are growing up, some people like to follow a trend and hate is the trend that some people follow. People are taught by others that it is okay and that hating other people is okay. Let’s take it back to the civil right period, when white people hated black people because they were taught to hate by their mothers and fathers. This is a cycle of hate because those people’s parents were taught by their parents so on. There has been a long line of hate that has be taught for centuries and is still going on to this day. The conclusion that comes to my head is hate needs to stop being taught and their should be peace because hate does not help anything it just make things worse.

The Best Players in the N.F.L By Hezekiah Davis

Have you ever wondered who the best player in the N.F.L.? Well, we did too, and were telling you who the best players in the N.F.L are from right now 2019 (some may be from 2018). Let’s see who is the best so far.

5: Todd Gurly – Rams

Do you know who Todd Gurly is? Well, he may be in 5th but, he is a pretty good football player. Todd plays for the Rams, is a star running back, and is number 30. He may not look like much, but he makes scoring plays and no matter what the score is, the situation, or how bad it is he puts his all in and makes sure he at least makes he is close to that endzone! He has speed, determination and heart, he may not be number 1, but he makes sure he is in the top 5!

4: Patrick Mahomes – Chiefs

At number 4, we have Pat Mahomes! Pat plays for the Chiefs, number 15, and is a master quarterback. Pat knows when and how to do something in a complex situation. He goes from throwing T.D plays, throwing star plays (incredible ones, really amazing), to running simply into the endzone when needed, and when possible! He is extremely amazing and makes sure he gets the play done. I bet you didn’t expect him to be in the top 5! So far we have Todd and Pat, we ́ll see who is next.

3. Khalil Mack – Bears

At 3, we have Khalil Mack, Linebacker for the Bears. He is number 52 and is a magnificent linebacker. Khalil makes sure he gets whoever has the ball down, or he’ll take it for himself! Khalil is amazing, he will make sure that he gets the play down, if not he’ll make the play! Khalil is unspeakable, he knows how to read the run, but he also knows when it’s his time to make it his play! Khalil clearly puts his name on the map, he may not be number 1 or 2, but if he can keep this up by next year, he’ll be there before you know it!

2: Drew Brees – Saints

Next, at number 2, he’s almost at the top, we have Drew Brees! Drew is a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. If you think he’s just a regular guy, you have another “think” coming! He’s number 9 and he’s pretty good. He knows how to put the ball at that perfect position, and how & when he needs to throw it. Drew is not an ordinary QB, he may be the best this year so far! Just like the people at 5,4 and 3, he continues to surprise people. We may be done with Drew, but Drew is not done with us!

1: Aaron Donald – Rams

We’ve been waiting for this for a while now, it’s number 1, or should I say number 99, it’s Aaron Donald! He may be a Defensive End, but in that little job, he makes the play big. He makes sure you don’t run the ball to him, and if you don’t, he’ll make sure he track you down. Aaron is unbelievable! He will get the play done no matter what. No matter where he is on the field, he will make you want to get ready because he’s bringing the storm, and it doesn’t like bright!

In conclusion, I gave you 5 of the amazing, magnificent, players that be on the field every Sunday or Monday. All the players that didn’t make the paper, don’t just stand around, they will come, and they will try to take any spot available throughout the year. The season is not over, there will be players, but until then I want you to acknowledge these players, 5 talented people so far.

Why I Prefer Minecraft over Fortnite By Giovanny Romero

This is my opinion on why I prefer Minecraft over Fortnite. I have played both Fortnite for two years and I have played Minecraft for four years.

Minecraft is better than Fortnite because you can craft many more items in Minecraft. In Fortnite, players are limited to crafting just stairs, walls, floors, and pyramids. You can explore different biomes/ lands like the Arctic, Plains, Mushroom islands, the Desert, and many more. In Minecraft, players are able to make their own worlds rather than just going onto random servers with people you don’t know. I like Minecraft more than Fortnite because there is more land to explore.

In Minecraft, you can find animals in different biomes instead of buying them for cosmetic use. Animals are very useful because they can protect you from mobs rather than just barking at your opponents. You can tame some animals such as wolves, cats, ocelots, bunnies, foxes, horses, donkeys, pandas, polar bears, and many more. In Fortnite animals only growl at the enemies. In Minecraft they attack anything or anyone who attacks you.

There are many different mobs in the game including animals. The most annoying mob is probably the silver fish and they are only found in strongholds. Many mobs can spawn randomly at any time of day such as the creeper, zombies, infected villagers, skeletons and many more. All those mobs I named go under the monster category of mobs. There are many details I left out but that is why i prefer Minecraft over Fortnite.

This is my opinion on why I prefer Minecraft over Fortnite.

Video Games are Educational Resources By Tyler Harper

I think that more parents should allow their children to play video games because they can help children gain real life knowledge, such as football plays and terminology. Video games helped me in real life football because I learned about plays that are actually used in real football.

For example, Madden taught me the strong blue play, the blackout play, and the tight end pass run. These are real plays that actual football players use in the field. The strong blue play is when the quarterback calls motion and the wide receiver gets the football and runs five yards. The wide receiver then passes back to the quarterback and tries to run it to the end zone. Another play I learned from playing video games is the black out play, this is when the defensive line gets in a straight line on the line of scrimmage. The tight end pass play is when the tight end goes out for a run and the wide receiver blocks for the tight end.

It was a great experience when I got to see all the plays I had learned in my video games in action. When I went to the Skyway Stadium I saw the 49ers and the Ocala Rattlers use twin nine pick play in the game. I was able to identify it because I learned it from my video game. The twin nine pick is when the wide receiver goes for a run and then he lets the tight end go and get the ball from him and then he tries to run to the endzone and does what I call the “end zone dance.”

I believe that video games are good educational resources, but they are not used as often as they should be. Parents should use video games to teach their children new things like football plays, exercise their fingers, and maybe even learn more of their colors. Since I learn so much when I play video games, I hope that people begin to think that videos games are a great resource to help others learn new things.
